From lasers to ‘weird physics’
Puthoff recounts a conventional physics rocket ship — ham radio teen, electrical engineering/physics, Stanford PhD, patented broadly tunable infrared laser, co-authored Fundamentals of Quantum Electronics — then a consciousness itch while writing the textbook. Cleve Baxter’s plant-polygraph papers sparked an algae-entanglement proposal; Baxter’s cocktail-party encounter with Ingo Swann redirected the whole path.
SRI, Ingo Swann, and the CIA
Swann visited SRI, affected a quantum device in a super-shielded environment, and CIA concern about ‘seeing through’ classified safes funded early work. Swann got bored with envelopes-in-the-next-room and pushed outbound Bay Area remote viewing. Lab directors hid target envelopes in safes to kill experimenter–subject collusion. Puthoff says he resisted every inch as a physicist and still lacks a full mechanism — only that consciousness seems expandable into the environment.
Silver futures and time-slippery results
Princeton/IEEE-adjacent work suggested remote viewing into near past or future performed about as well as present targets. Skeptics asked why psychics aren’t rich; Puthoff’s wife’s school needed $25K, a dentist offered 10% of silver-futures winnings if ESP guided trades. Puthoff had school-board volunteers describe tomorrow’s up/down objects (figurine vs tape measure) instead of forecasting markets directly — ~30 days, ~$260K for the investor, ~$26K for the school. They stopped because it was nearly a full-time job while training Army intelligence viewers.
Bush-era disclosure war game
A DC contact promised ‘the most important meeting of your life.’ Attendees (ex-CIA monitors, DIA, military) were told the US, Russia, and China had obtained crashed ET craft and non-human bodies — then tasked to score cultural impacts of disclosure from +9 to −9. Puthoff’s group and every other group landed negative after scenarios like preferential crash-material access creating lawsuits and bankruptcies. Outcome memo vibe: if you’re thinking disclosure, forget it. They never learned whether the premise was fact or hypothetical.
AATIP, materials, and 2050 physics papers
After Blue Book’s public death and the fine-print national-security exception, 2017-era Senate interest and Jim Lacatski’s DIA RFP led Bigelow to the program and Puthoff into propulsion/physics tasking with promised materials access. Aerospace negotiations produced ‘too compartmentalized’ rather than denials. Plan B: survey subject-matter experts for 2050 field forecasts — dozens of papers spanning aneutronic fusion, warp drive, dark energy, wormholes, brain–machine interfaces, spacetime metric engineering.
Craft signatures and witness cases
Puthoff links metric/gravity control expectations to frequency upshifts that could make normally invisible heat visible — and push spectra into UV/soft X-ray near a powered craft, matching sunburn and radiation-poisoning reports. He treats Travis Walton as solid (polygraphs, hostile coworker consistency). Oceanic UAP / no-cavitation submarine anecdotes and Tim Gallaudet’s interest get airtime. He has seen some materials he can discuss (Roswell-adjacent Art Bell / Linda Moulton Howe sample path) and others he cannot.
Disclosure politics now
Schumer–Rounds UAP Disclosure Act language (nonhuman intelligence mentioned repeatedly, eminent domain for materials, National Archives pathway) passed the Senate and died in the House; Rounds told Puthoff they aren’t quitting and asked for physics pushback against ‘beyond our physics’ dismissals. Puthoff has briefed Senate intel/armed services and AARO. He argues 2004 stigma and disinfo made disclosure suicide; 2025 zeitgeist (Nimitz Tic Tac, NYT 2017, pilots, documentaries) makes gradual acceptance more plausible — but national-security sequencing and amnesty for past cover still matter.
